Jacopo Casasola — Squarci, in sogno
An acousmatic music work composed in the studios of the Hochschule für Künste Bremen (Germany). It focuses on the idea of a rupture, a tear in time. The flow of time is interrupted by fissures that offer glimpses of a series of imaginary, possible worlds, apparitions in a dream. The sonic images that unfold whilst listening reveal different sonic paths, contrasting in timbre, rhythm, tension and pitch. I present here the octophonic version, spatialised in Ambisonics format.
Leonardo Cicala — Spazio di Accumulazione
The piece is constructed through processes of progressive accumulation of musical material: simple, repetitive and initially functional cells are added one after the other without anything ever really being eliminated. Each new element arises as a necessity, but over time loses its original role, becoming weight, background noise, clutter. The accumulation does not lead to development, but rather to a saturation of the sound space, in which quantity defines meaning. Music thus becomes a metaphor for the compulsive accumulation of contemporary society: the desire for possession generates a continuous stratification that suffocates emptiness, but also the possibility of listening, choice and silence.
Christoph Brünggel — Of Cybernetic Monoliths and Flowing Turbulences
This work explores the phenomena of energy conversion, as well as the organisational logic of time and space in energy infrastructures – metabolic systems that completely transcend the human body in scale. It investigates the sonic articulations inherent in those systems: the flowing, more-than-human forces of water, heat, wind, and steam, that are transformed into electricity and manifest themselves for instance as monolithic humming, turbulent flow, and systemic regulatory pressure changes. At the same time, the composition also attempts to capture and express the unique spatial configurations of these infrastructural sites.
The piece is based on sensory experiences in various power plants, where also multiperspective field recordings were made using different microphone and sensor technologies. By generating, shaping, and structuring sounds with an analog modular synthesizer, the in-situ insights are transformed by imitating specific phenomena and exploring further possibilities for musical translation. Thus, the composition not only refers to on-site soundscape perception, but also attempts to make internalized, embodied experiences tangible by directly transforming pure electricity into a sensory, sonic existence via a musical instrument.
Nicola Fumo Frattegiani — Hybris
The work presents itself as an allegory of the concept of conflict, understood in its most intimate sense. A descent into the abyss of discord, where acoustic entities battle for supremacy. There is no redemption, only blind fury, untamed and unyielding, that moves toward the destruction of the other. What remains is pure silence.
The entire composition employs concrete samples of percussion, metal objects, and sine wave frequencies. Signal processing techniques include time-stretching and granular synthesis. The concrete samples processed with granular synthesis were broken down into tiny fragments through manual editing and then reassembled with a new temporal order through a kind of micro-editing.
Luca Morino — The Contested Zone
Homaging ALL NEW GEN (1992–1993), an artwork by the Australian cyber-feminist media art collective VNS Matrix, The Contested Zone is a participatory music performance that explores game-based interaction, logic and aesthetics as frameworks for shaping audience participation. Guided by a performer who remotely controls and distributes sound across both the PA system and the audience’s mobile devices, the work transforms each spectator into a localized agent and source of sound and light within a diffuse, composite multimedia environment. “Beware, there is no moral code in The Zone”.
Riccardo Mazza — Sonic Memories
Inspired by Bergson’s durée and Deleuze and Guattari’s rhizome, Sonic Memories uses live coding to release autobiographical recordings from chronology and transform them into a navigable map. In SuperCollider, FluCoMa processes reorganize them through spectral affinities, creating unexpected proximities: a mechanical sound may approach a voice, a lagoon recording may approach an everyday trace. The performer navigates this shifting geography, bringing original fragments into dialogue with synthetic reconstructions derived from a lightweight autoencoder trained during the performance. The wavetable becomes both audible material and a source of modulation, also perturbing the spatial positions of sounds across an Ambisonic field. With code, map, and waveforms visible, memory unfolds not as retrieval but as an act of continuous rewriting, negotiated between performer and computation. It was presented at ICMC 2026 in Hamburg as a live performance and Innovation Showcase.
Biografie
Jacopo Casasola
Sound artist based in Bologna. He is currently a MA candidate in Sound design at the Conservatory of Bologna. BA in Electronic Music and Erasmus student in Electroacoustic Composition at the Hochschule für Künste in Bremen. His artistic activity is mainly related to electroacoustic composition, but reflects a strong interest in multimedia, with a particular focus on the relationship between sound and space.
Leonardo Cicala
Electroacoustic composer, acousmatic performer, live performer, teacher. He studied at the Conservatory of Lecce; He set up the association “ACUSMA Teatro del suono” in Bari, which encourages sound arts research by promoting activities of musical production. Winner of the first prize in electroacoustic composition “Bangor Dylan Thomas Prize” in the UK, has been a finalist in several international competitions, his compositions are performed in major festivals.
Christoph Brünggel
Christoph Brünggel (Brugg, Switzerland, 1980)
His artistic practice has been rooted in field research for years, using in situ experiences as base for his work and reflection. He explores how embodied sensory knowledge of specific post-human places influence his work and how aesthetic approaches can open up modes of encountering the world and enable transduction of knowledge. He is a doctoral candidate at the Centre for Artistic Research at University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG) and a research associate at the Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK).
Nicola Fumo Frattegiani
Electroacoustic composer living in Perugia, Italy. His works have been presented at several prestigious national and international festivals of electroacoustic music and experimental arts. He currently teaches “Audio & Mixing” and “Sound Space Design” at the Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia and is a tenured professor in Electroacoustic Music Composition at the Conservatory of Fermo.
Luca Morino
Graduated in Electronic Music from the Conservatory of Turin and currently PhD candidate in Sound Studies and Sonic Arts, Conservatory of Trento. He collaborated with ALMARE (producing the film “Life Chronicles of Dorothea Ïesj S.P.U.”, 2024) and Compagnia Genovese Beltramo (producing the theatre play “Un estremo atto d’amore”, 2022). He also works as a sound designer for podcast productions and as a sound engineer for the festival Musica in Prossimità.
Riccardo Mazza
